  • What are the goals you aim to accomplish through this mentoring engagement?
  • Where did you grow up? Have you done any traveling? If so, where?
  • What hobbies, sports, and other interests do you have or want to pursue? For instance, do you consider yourself a “foodie”? Do you engage in winter sports? 
  • Other than your career goals, what other goals do you have, and how might these inform your decision on where to relocate? For instance, are you interested in learning a new language and experiencing other cultures? 
  • Do you have particular medical or other personal needs that influence your choice of residence? 
  • Are there geographic areas where jobs of interest to you are expected to grow?
  • Where are you applying for jobs? What types of jobs? What types of companies? What’s motivating you to apply for these opportunities?
  • What are the pros and cons of relocating?
  • Where do you want to be in 5-years time?

Deliverable

Submit a brief including (1) links to three job listings located in a place you are considering working. (2) Research 2 restaurants that look interesting near those places of work. (3) What’s the cost of a 1-bedroom apartment in that area? What about other aspects of the “cost of living” like food, mass transit, fuel, and other utilities? What type of public transportation is available? What else can you learn about the organization and health of the community? What do people do for fun? Does that appeal to you, why or why not?

Meeting Two - Conversation Starters
  • What did you learn about your places of interest?
  • Do your learnings get you more excited or less excited about relocating?
  • Do you have any social and family support in the area you wish to relocate? 
  • What factors are you including in your decision-making? Where do pay, lifestyle, connections, work culture, and other factors play in your decision?
  • Suggestions on next steps when considering relocation.

Final Deliverable

In a debrief email format, upload a thank you note highlighting your ranked order of places where you’d want to relocate. Explain why and showcase your newfound understanding of that location and why you feel the place would be a good fit for you.
