Angela’s House is celebrating its 28th anniversary this August, but we are still not a household name on Long Island. We have had a number of changes to our programs and have added new ones. Our website, collaterals, and marketing efforts need to be revamped to include all of these changes. We are looking to create a project to touch upon our PR and communications needs.
Components of this may include:
- Assist with creating/finding engaging content for our social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter) feeds
- Assist with research other pages/celebrities that align with our mission (for example Cause the Wave to Heal EB [Epidermolysis bullosa] is run by the Vedder family from music group Pearl Jam and they have shared posts of some of our kids that have the diagnosis to raise awareness)
- Develop relationships with “influencers” around the area whose values match our mission, including moms with big followings on social media, so that we can tap into their network
- Assist in updating our website
- Help develop a social media and communications calendar (researching key annual dates, for example, all of the disease recognition dates: Rare Disease Day, World Down Syndrome Day)
- Collaboration in drafting and developing press releases and newsletters
- Develop and update media lists and databases
- Develop a media kit
- Seek opportunities for news coverage, newspaper ads
- Monitor relevant news and information on Angela’s House
- Assist with updating our Vimeo/YouTube accounts (possibly condense into one)

Key Project Milestones
-
June 12, 2020 - Introductions and Background
Learn more about Angela’s House, our programs, and our kids. The interns will assess the current social media platforms. They will help identify what is working and make suggestions on improvements, new ideas to incorporate, and ways to integrate other possible platforms. Encouraged to look at other non-profits living in a similar space (St. Jude, Make-A-Wish, Marty Lyons Foundation, etc.) for ideas.
Suggested Deliverable:
Documentation of the best received posts for the last 2 months, as well as a proposal document for the best path forward, suggestions on content (can include ideas for advertising on social media).
-
June 24, 2020 - Identifying possible supporters
Assist with research other pages/celebrities that align with our mission (for example Cause the Wave to Heal EB [Epidermolysis bullosa] is run by the Vedder family from music group Pearl Jam and they have shared posts of some of our kids that have the diagnosis to raise awareness). Identify influencers around the area whose values match our mission, including moms with big followings on social media, so that we can tap into their network.
Suggested Deliverable:
Report back with findings, names, social media handles, foundations (if applicable), hashtags they use.
-
July 3, 2020 - What is medically fragile child? Building awareness.
Help develop a social media and communications calendar (researching key annual dates, for example, all of the disease recognition dates: Rare Disease Day, World Down Syndrome Day). We will provide a list of the diagnoses our children have as a reference point. It is important to showcase the over 250+ different diseases/disorders/conditions our children have so the general public further understands the complexities of their care and needs.
Suggested Deliverable:
Google doc (excel sheet) with important dates that we should be showcasing annually. If it’s a specific date, like May 2nd every year or the 3rd Thursday of March, all pertinent information, including links if relevant, should be included.
-
July 22, 2020 - A New Look - website revamp
Assist in updating our website. Review other similar charity’s website to get an idea for look and feel we should be going for. Assess current our website page by page, identify pages that need updating, links that do not work, data that may be obsolete. Assist with updating our Vimeo/YouTube accounts (possibly condense into one)
Suggested Deliverable:
Report back with findings, suggestions, and ideas for a fresh, engaging look. What should be included, what isn’t relevant to have any more?
-
July 31, 2020 - Press
Develop and update media lists and databases.
Suggested Deliverable:
Google doc (excel sheet) with updated contact information for reporters, news outlets, social media pages that are relevant to helping us spread the mission of Angela’s House.
-
August 7, 2020 - Media Kit
So now that we have the press identified, what are we going to give them? A media kit is important to have to showcase all the work that is done by a non-profit.
- Help answer questions before they are asked
- Provide facts and information
- Introduce organization and programs/impact
Suggested Deliverable:
Develop a media kit using all the work from prior weeks. Collaborate in drafting and developing press releases and newsletters.
