Capstone – Project

BoardBuild Measurable Community Impact

A Collaboration Between

Project Synopsis

OBJECTIVE: Above all, ensure that BoardBuild strengthens communities through well-governed, diverse boards of directors.

Accomplishing this objective means that the BoardBuild organization must be financially viable and delivers high-quality products and services to a receptive market.

How do we make sure this is happening? Through measuring community impact for each audience served by the organization. Social Impact Measurement is a process of understanding how much social change occurred and can be attributed to an organization’s activities. Each impact measurement should be:

 Clearly defined
 Quantifiable
 Adaptable
 Show depth and breadth
 Practical and actionable

Tracking these indicators provides many benefits:

 Continuous improvement of our products and services
 Continuous operational improvement
 Empirical performance information for both current and potential funders
 Anecdotes and stories for marketing and communications to nonprofits and individuals

The following audiences and functional areas will be key to include in impact assessment:

 NPO Board of Directors
 NPO Executive Management
 Individual User
 Corporate / Employee User

Deliverables:

  1. Team will review, edit and develop impact measurements for each of BoardBuild’s audiences.
  2. Team will develop tools to measure impact.
  3. Team will implement and execute Year 1 impact measurements.
  4. Team will assess and report Year 1 community impact.
