Key Project Milestones

  • March 8, 2021 - Develop a working knowledge of the software (individual activity)

    • Take a tour of the software
    • Learn how to load the software
    • Practice conducting basic traditional accounting tasks (e.g. entering transactions, creating a trial balance) and work through the steps of the accounting cycle using practice data

    Suggested Deliverable:

    Internal presentation

  • March 29, 2021 - Test the Software by Applying the Accounting Cycle to a Real Case

    • Complete the accounting cycle using real case financial data supplied by Rook Accounting.
    • Create and maintain a “Bug Journal”, documenting faults, failures, flaws, errors, and unwanted outcomes in the software

  • April 19, 2021 - Ratio Analysis to Compare and Evaluate the Real Case Company and Test Software

    • Conduct Internet research to identify a company in the same business sector and obtain financial data.
    • Determine metrics to be used in ratio analysis.
    •  Conduct financial ratios analysis comparing financial statements of Real Case and the chosen company.
    • Based upon the comparative analysis, draw conclusions and inferences about the Real Case company. For instance:
      • What do your findings suggest about the financial health of the company? About the company’s position?
      • What would this information signal to potential investors?
    • Document faults, failures, flaws, errors, and unwanted outcomes in the software in the Bug Journal

    Suggested Deliverable:

    • Visual and oral presentation to Rook Accounting including:
      • Side-by-side comparison between companies and metrics used in analysis
      • Bug report
  • May 13, 2021 - Conduct Foreign Currency Audit and Software Test

    • Determine the functional currency of the company.
    • Review/analyze company’s financial statements for currency exchange (purchasing)
      • identify foreign currency transactions; note their transaction date and settlement date.
      • conduct research to determine exchange rate(s)
      • assess financial statements for accuracy and identify errors
      • correct financial statements, restate financial statement if appropriate
    • Make notations in the Bug Journal reporting any issues with software’s capabilities to handle currency reporting functions used in your analysis or any other problems you encounter with the software.
