  • August 18, 2021 - Obtain Market Data for Specified Occupations

    • What are the various types of positions WestWay is looking to staff with a global staffing model?
      • What are the appropriate labor markets for these types of positions?
      • Where would WestWay logically recruit from?
    • What technologies and other infrastructures are needed to support staff and operations?
    • Who are the key competitors? To what extent are they capturing the talent needs? How do they attract talent?
    • What does a survey of the market suggest about:
      • salaries that are being paid for like positions?
      • other compensation trends, such as merit-based and ancillary pay, and other compensation practices?
    • What strategies can you use to validate the market areas, market competitors, and job matches (benchmarks)?

    1. What regions/countries/cities around the world seem ripe for expansion. Why? What metrics can you use to justify this?
    2. How would you measure the availability of the current and projected qualified workforce?
    3. What competitors does the company have in the country and/or region?  How do they attract talent? To what extent are they capturing the talent needs?
    4. What geopolitical factors and cultural or governmental norms create potential risks? Opportunities?
    5. What metrics would you use to assess the availability and adequacy of technology and other infrastructures needed for operations?
    6. What are the financial projections in terms of feasibility of establishing operations and staffing in these places?
      • Develop a flexible model dependent upon a set of assumptions that can be manipulated to understand the dynamics of the organization.
      • How might this model change as the organization expands?
      • What should the goals be for the next few years?

    1. Following your analysis, which region(s) seems the most strategic for expanding WestWay’s staffing model? From a cost, technology, and operations standpoint, why is this the best strategy?
    2. How would you suggest entering?
    3. What resources and/or changes to the business model would be required? What sources can be used to support these changes? For instance:
      1. What guidance should the business turn to in order to keep up on changes in workforce laws and regulations?
      2. What are your recommendations for changes to salary, staffing structure, etc.?
    4. What would make WestWay among the best places to work for in order to attract and retain qualified talent in a competitive labor market?
