Project Synopsis

Since 1935, Hioki EE. Corporation has been at the forefront of the electrical manufacturing industry, and their track record of environmental and social sustainability activities extends nearly a half century. This year (2021) marks the 45th anniversary of the adoption of The Hioki Philosophy expressed as the company’s “Respect for Humanity and Contribution to Society”, and the leadership at Hioki is seeking a digital transformation plan that works effectively vis a vis the company’s overall strategy for sustainability reducing the company’s environmental footprint. The leadership at Hioki recognizes the importance of conveying the value of our digital transformation initiatives to our teams working across the company, and are seeking to develop a strategy, framework, and tools to demonstrate the value and facilitate these initiatives as they relate to information technology. For this project, we are asking you to gather intelligence and develop a dashboard framework and platform for a single service and make recommendations for using these outputs to demonstrate IT’s business value and the potential for expanding upon this strategy and framework.

    • What are Hioki’s mission, history, vision and values?
    • What is the company’s brand and reputation?
    • What do they do/produce?
    • What is the global reach and impact of this organization? For instance, how many locations? How many employees?
    • Who are their key partners?
    • What is the group’s philosophy, and how does it relate to themes of corporate responsibility and sustainability?
    • Become familiar with the organizational structure to facilitate the achievement of subsequent milestones for the project.

  • August 18, 2021 - Assess the status quo of the company's cloud strategy and priority services

    • What are the critical services moving through the cloud?
    • What service initiatives are being digitized? Or are in the process of being digitized?
    • Which stakeholders and parts of the business are already implementing a modern approach to doing business?
    • To what degree is their approach to service management customer-centric?
    • Concentrate on leadership and key stakeholders and their roles:
      • Are there services that are consistently followed?
      • What roles do they play in operations, development, and security?
      • Who is held accountable for incidents and outages?
    • How are performance goals for key infrastructures and service delivery measured and tracked?

    Suggested Deliverable:

    Report on Hioki’s cloud strategy and service priorities

  • September 1, 2021 - Align goals and priorities among and communicate IT's business value to stakeholder departments and leaders

    • Gather intelligence from service stakeholders across departments. What does their input suggest about:
      • their roles and responsibilities for protecting business performance?
      • the range of applications that are required to generate revenue?
      • the range of goals and objectives?
      • share goals and objectives across departments?
      • shared KPI’s?
    • How do the shared objectives align with broader business goals such as revenue generated? Customer satisfaction?
    • How would you map the entire business service workflow and infrastructure?

  • September 15, 2021 - Demonstrate the feasibility of describing and predicting performance of a single service

    • Based on the intel you’ve gathered, identify a single service relevant business and technical KPIs.
    • How would you build a dashboard for visualizing these KPI’s and troubleshooting causes of degradation in service?
      • How can you create repository that unifies data from across various systems and collects metrics for multiple users to view?
      • How are the KPI’s defined and supported by technology? How would you map key technology metrics to the KPI’s?
    • How can the dashboard you’ve created and the results of your analysis be used to demonstrate IT’s business value to the company and across stakeholder departments and the potential for expanding upon this strategy and framework?
      • How can these be expressed in financial terms?
      • How can this information be communicated to company leaders and across stakeholder departments in ways that can be understood and integrated into strategic budgeting and planning?
