What is a Case Competition?
CapSource’s Live Case Competition model enables educators to engage students with real-world companies looking for an innovative solution to a challenge within their company.
Students teams are paired with a “host company” and receive information on the problem they are currently facing. These teams then compete against one another to come up with the most innovative and effective solution for the host company.
These experiences are always engaging for students and valuable for organizations. These types of competitions are resume-worthy experiences and help students develop industry-related skills which help them excel in their post-college careers.
How Educators Can Use Case Competitons
Enroll Students in an Active Case Competition
CapSource runs several Case Competitions throughout the year, including the current IACBE competition. Utilizing the CapSource platform, educators can identify interesting Case Competitions and enroll and manage student teams.
Design and Run Your Own Custom Competition
Educators can design custom Case Competitons on the platform for any number of students to participate in. This is especially useful for university wide competitions and allows for easy management across many classes and students.

Find an Active Competition or Design your Own
Sign-up and find an active competition to enroll students or build your own by creating a fully customized case that is geared to provide your students with the best possible learning experience. Leverage our templates and project builder to ensure your innovation challenge is well-defined. Customize your timeline and share appropriate resources to ensure students can hit the ground running.
On-Board Participants and Build Teams
Once you found an active case that best fits your needs or you have finalized your own competition, you will be able to easily onboard students as well as mentors, and judges (if needed) to the platform. Participants can be grouped into any size team.
Once the teams are finalized, students can begin reviewing all the project information available.
Track and Manage Students
Track and manage student progress throughout the Case Competiton. This ensures students stay on track and complete high-quality work throughout the Competition.
Evaluate Preformance
Evaluate each team’s performance directly on the CapSource platform. Students will be able to receive feedback from not just educators but also industry partners and judges. Students often receive high-quality feedback from industry partners, and top performers will be ranked.
As a bonus, we help your students reflect on their experience, and we provide you with their feedback on the competition to allow educators to learn what went well and how to improve these experiences in the future.

During this Live Case collaboration, the Fashion Merch andising students of LIU, provided a lot of great information for us that usually takes so long to gather. I look forward to seeing the HERVE launch come to life. Our team is using influencers and strategies that the students suggested, so I hope all the students feel part of it! The Spring 2020 Coinsource Live Case competition far exceeded our expectations. The student’s ingenuity and dedication to producing high-quality solutions was truly impressive, despite the constraints of a virtual environment. The feedback derived regarding our business model and strategy from this next generation of business leaders was informative and valuable to Coinsource as we continue to grow and innovate. We are excited to move forward with the winning undergraduate team Oregon Tech as members of the Coinsource team!

We had our kickoff meeting tonight on our “project” with Adelphi Graduate Class. I was very favorable impressed with the questions and energy levels from everyone.

Even as a non-profit, we wrestle with complex strategic questions when it comes to running and scaling our operations. The students added capacity to our team and brought a new and fresh perspective to a critical research project. I believe that the students appreciated the challenge and learned a lot through the project. We’re excited to see that they are learning and growing as much as we are benefiting from their insights, which was our main objective for this engagement.
